ABOUT STARTERS LEVEL

The Starters level, also known as Pre-A1 Starters, is the first step in the Cambridge Assessment English exams for young learners. It is designed for children who are just beginning to learn English, typically aged 6 to 8. This exam introduces basic vocabulary and simple sentence structures, helping students build confidence in using English in everyday situations. The test is internationally recognized and serves as a great foundation for further language learning.

One of the key benefits of taking the Starters exam is that it makes learning English fun and engaging. The test includes colorful pictures and interactive tasks that motivate young learners. It also helps children develop essential language skills—listening, speaking, reading, and writing—in a supportive and encouraging way. Since there is no pass or fail, every child receives a certificate that highlights their achievements, making it a positive learning experience.

The Starters exam consists of three parts: Listening, Reading and Writing, and Speaking. The Listening section includes tasks like matching pictures with words and answering simple questions. The Reading and Writing section tests students’ ability to understand basic words, phrases, and short sentences. The Speaking section involves a short conversation with an examiner, where students answer questions about pictures and personal topics. The test is designed to be stress-free and enjoyable, allowing young learners to demonstrate what they have learned in a relaxed environment.

To prepare for the Starters exam, students should practice basic vocabulary and simple sentence patterns through fun activities like songs, stories, and games. Using Cambridge practice materials, such as sample papers and flashcards, can help familiarize students with the test format. Regular speaking practice, whether with teachers, parents, or classmates, is also important to build confidence. By creating an enjoyable learning routine, students can develop their English skills naturally and be well-prepared for the exam.
